At some point in the very near future, I’m led to believe I will lose my blue check that indicates I am in fact verified as Bruce Claggett. And I just don’t care. Nor am I going to shell out $8 to keep it and whine that others - so-called average people - now qualify to have that same blue check. Admittedly, I kind of smirk knowing a few people that share the same full name as famous people…I hope they will verify themselves and run wild.
You see - I don’t have a Twitter account. You don’t either. And while I might sometimes call it ‘my Twitter account,’ it belongs to Twitter and Twitter now belongs to the creepy billionaire genius that bought it. @bruceclaggett on any social media platform belongs to someone else. It’s rented space. It’s a borrowed tool. I sincerely hope that many organizations, including some in the news business, figure that out.
Does that mean I don’t like Twitter? No. It. Does. Not.
I love Twitter very much and use it as one of my primary ways to keep up-to-date with those I follow. It’s also a great tool for promotion and kind of fun. But I also recognize that anything I post is not really mine…and that’s okay.
I also have nothing against Elon Musk and his new role as Twitter’s Chief Twit. He’s an interrupter and a disturber…most of all, he makes us think and talk. Apathy and irrelevance are the real alternatives and I certainly don’t care for those.

So, I started this thing…
Early last week, I launched Vancouver Rundown as a very inexpensive ($5 per month) way for busy professionals to get an overview of what’s happening in the news…on an almost daily basis.
What is it?
Simply put - it’s a short daily summary of what’s happening in the news from the lens of someone living in the Vancouver area. Yep, it starts with a cheeky summary from yours truly. Then it lists links to credible news organizations and their updated stories under the categories of:
Top five things you need to know
Top business stories
That’s cool
Journalism matters
Bonus
Why?
After many years of working in the news business, I’ve found people want a quick update of what’s happening and a scour of the top news organizations and their biggest stories serves that purpose. Having it delivered daily to an email inbox, Substack.com app and pinned to the top of my Twitter feed makes it easy. Stay up to date without wasting time - be in the know before you hit meetings or talk with friends and colleagues.
The ask…
Please try out the free seven day subscription. Take a look through some of the past offerings too. If you like it, it’s only $5 month (less than the cream or sugar in your coffee).

But remember, your subscription to Claggett’s take will always be free. Please share with others.
