Bell to turn-off or sell nine AM radio stations across the country as revenues tumble
Well said Bruce!! As a lifelong fan of talk radio, the Bell Media closings and cuts are terrible news! And you are right - media business executives don’t love or understand talk or news radio. AM Radio will always exist and can be not only informative but also profitable! Some owners understand that and have done well but most are oblivious. Talk radio is the original “social media” - with loads of engagement! 📻
Great article, Bruce. Very informative. I never knew about the transmitters before reading this. My first media job was in private radio and it was so much fun. I still have two radios at home on AM. I'll also mention that it's sad to see all those layoffs at CTV. I'll miss Tom Walters's writing, Glen McGregor's tenacity, Daniele Hamandjian's ability to speak to everyday people in several languages, and the very trustworthy Paul Workman. Joyce Napier also didn't deserve to lose her job. I wonder if we're seeing what Hudson Mack described as a "salary dump" when he was given his walking papers. Get rid of the veterans and later, if the budget permits, hire some rookies at a much lower cost. I also wonder how much CTV saved by replacing Lisa LaFlamme.
